On the 23rd, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn announced that Thailand will strengthen its border control measures with Cambodia to comprehensively enhance efforts against transnational crime.
At a press conference held at the Prime Minister's Office, she said the Thai government would further reinforce border controls in areas adjoining Cambodia, including restricting the opening hours of border checkpoints in seven border provinces and prohibiting cross-border travel of vehicles and individuals unless necessary.
She stated that the Thai government would also step up monitoring of financial systems linked to transnational telecom scam networks, sever network and submarine cable connections with Cambodian military and government agencies, and stop the export of electricity, fuel, and other critical materials to areas related to transnational crime. In addition, all fuel exports to Cambodia would be re-examined to prevent their use for illegal purposes.
Moreover, on the evening of the 23rd, the army district and naval border command responsible for managing the Thai-Cambodian border issued announcements stating that border entry and exit control measures would be tightened, allowing only entry and exit for humanitarian reasons such as medical care, and for necessary activities like school access or procuring essential livelihood supplies.
Recently, tensions at the Thai-Cambodian border have escalated due to border disputes. On the 22nd, Cambodia announced a ban on fuel and natural gas imports from Thailand and advised Cambodian citizens to avoid traveling to Thailand.
