(Miri, 19th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew stated that the launch of the Highly Immersive Curriculum (HIP) Galactic Carnival at Pintang Primary School not only marks a new chapter in education but also signifies students entering a transformative way of learning.
He said that this event is a bold step forward aimed at bridging the gap between traditional learning and the dynamic demands of our interconnected, rapidly evolving world. This vision is the result of the collective efforts of educators, innovators, and visionaries who recognize that education needs to evolve alongside technology, culture, and society.
Datuk Sebastian Ting made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the Galactic Carnival held at Pintang Primary School.
He pointed out that the essence of the curriculum lies in its highly immersive nature. Unlike traditional methods, it takes learners out of the classroom, placing them in environments where they can interact, engage, and truly experience the learning content. Whether through virtual reality, simulation-based learning, or interactive platforms, the curriculum strives to create profound and lasting learning experiences, far beyond rote memorization and passive consumption.
“As we enter this new realm, we recognize that the challenges of the 21st century are complex, multifaceted, and ever-changing. From the rapid pace of technological advancements to the shifts in the global economic landscape, our learners must possess not only the ability to adapt but also the skills to innovate and lead.”
He also expressed his deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the Galactic Carnival a reality—to visionary leaders, dedicated educators, cutting-edge technology experts, and, of course, the enthusiastic learners embarking on this journey. Their commitment and enthusiasm are truly the factors that make this program a success.
“There is no doubt that through this Galactic Carnival, we are not only shaping future leaders but also empowering individuals with the confidence, creativity, and sense of purpose to embrace the limitless possibilities of the future.”
He hopes that this curriculum can continue to be held to bring more benefits to students.
It is reported that the event featured over 20 booths, including those showcasing student works, the army, the fire department, the Miri Astronomy Center, and the Public Works Department.
