Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a symposium with non-Party personages on Thursday that China's current economic operation faces some difficulties and challenges, and stressed the need to strengthen confidence and tackle difficulties.
According to CCTV News, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held a symposium at Zhongnanhai to listen to the opinions and suggestions of the heads of the central committees of democratic parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and representatives of non-party personages on the current economic situation and economic work for the second half of the year.
Xi Jinping presided over the symposium and delivered a speech emphasizing that it is necessary to do a good job in economic work for the second half of the year, better coordinate the two overall situations at home and abroad, accelerate the transformation of old and new driving forces, implement a more proactive fiscal policy and a moderately accommodative monetary policy, and fully leverage the effectiveness of various existing policies.
He also proposed to timely plan and introduce new practical and effective incremental policies, put more effort into expanding domestic demand and optimizing supply, enhance development momentum, stimulate social vitality, promote the economy to develop continuously towards the new, the optimal, and the better, and strive to achieve a good start to the “15th Five-Year Plan” (2026 to 2030).
Xi Jinping stressed that in the second half of the year, it is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of macro policies, with a particular focus on tapping the potential of domestic demand, promoting deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, expanding high-level opening up to the outside world, effectively ensuring and improving people's livelihood, and continuously resolving risks in key areas.
Xi Jinping also put forward several hopes for the democratic parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and non-party personages, including unifying thoughts and actions with the CPC Central Committee’s analysis and judgment of the current economic situation and the decision-making deployment of economic work, strengthening confidence in development, and jointly promoting the realization of the annual economic and social development goals and tasks.
Another point is to "guide everyone to study and understand the Party’s innovative theories, constantly enhance their political, ideological, theoretical, and emotional identification with the leadership of the Communist Party of China and with socialism with Chinese characteristics, and to create a favorable atmosphere for promoting high-quality development."
The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China also held a meeting on Thursday and decided to convene the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee in October. The meeting analyzed and studied the economic situation, emphasizing the need to pay great attention to the difficulties and challenges in economic operation and to strengthen confidence. Regarding economic work for the second half of the year, the meeting proposed to timely introduce practical and effective incremental policies, put more effort into expanding domestic demand and optimizing supply, vigorously develop service trade, and promote balanced development of trade.
