(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd recently held the 2026 “Hengyi Academic Excellence Award” ceremony at its Muara Besar Island headquarters, recognizing 15 students from 5 schools for their outstanding academic achievements and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence and exploring future career opportunities in the petrochemical industry.
The award-winning students came from Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam Secondary School, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Secondary School, Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School, Chung Hwa Middle School Kuala Belait, and Meragang Sixth Form Centre.
The ceremony began with a prayer session and a safety briefing, followed by an opening speech delivered by Hengyi’s Human Resources Manager, Zhou Fuzhen (name transliterated).
She congratulated all the awardees and pointed out that this is the second consecutive year Hengyi has organized this award. She also emphasized the importance of education in nurturing the next generation of talent and driving Brunei's future development.
During the event, a video was also shown introducing Hengyi’s operations, its contributions to Brunei’s socio-economic development, as well as joint scholarship and partnership programs, allowing students to further understand educational and career opportunities in the petrochemical sector.
In the awarding segment, 15 students who achieved excellent results in the General Certificate of Education “O” Level and “A” Level examinations received the Academic Excellence Award. Each awardee received a certificate of excellence and a reward of BND 300.
The “O” Level awards were presented by Zhou Fuzhen, while the “A” Level awards were presented by Hengyi’s Human Resources Director, Alan Goh.
The event concluded with a group photo and a guided tour of the Hengyi plant, giving students an up-close look at the operation of modern integrated petrochemical facilities and various career development directions within the industry.
The Hengyi Academic Excellence Award was established in 2025 and is one of the corporate social responsibility projects under “Hengyi Future-Ready”, with a focus on supporting education, talent development, and workforce readiness in Brunei.
Hengyi hopes to cultivate the new generation of local talents, thereby building a workforce for the national petrochemical industry that is equipped with professional skills, innovation, and technical expertise.
