(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) An employer was fined BND 4,500 and ordered to pay the outstanding contribution amount of BND 77,898.45 after pleading guilty in the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court to failing to pay the Employees Trust Fund (TAP), Supplemental Contributory Pension (SCP), and National Retirement Scheme (SPK) within the prescribed deadlines.
The Employees Trust Fund (TAP) issued a statement indicating that the defendant, Sharifah, admitted to violating Section 23 of the Employees Trust Act (Chapter 167), Section 26 of the Supplemental Contributory Pension Trust Act (Chapter 276), and Section 31 of the National Retirement Scheme Act (Chapter 273).
The case details show that the employer failed to make the required payments for employees within the specified time period.
After the defendant pleaded guilty, the Magistrate's Court imposed a fine of BND 4,500 and ordered her to settle the cumulative TAP arrears of BND 77,898.45.
TAP stated that if the employer fails to pay the fine or settle the outstanding contributions, they will face imprisonment.
The authorities reminded employers that upon conviction of the relevant laws, first-time offenders may be fined up to BND 3,000, while second and subsequent offences may incur fines of up to BND 10,000.
To safeguard the welfare of TAP members, authorities urge all employers to settle due contributions by the 15th of the following month to avoid penalties for late payment, including loss of dividend and service charges.
Employees wishing to report enforcement-related matters, including employers failing to register or pay the necessary contributions, may contact the TAP Enforcement Hotline at 730 2929 or email enforcement@tap.com.bn.
The public may also visit any TAP branch, call the TAP Call Centre at 272 2929 during office hours, or lodge a report through the e-Amanah online platform.
