(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Xiao Jianguo, was invited to speak at the "Filial Piety Festival and Elderly Friendship Meeting" hosted by the Fuzhou Ten Counties Fellowship Association. He expressed that filial piety and respect for the elderly are traditional virtues of the Chinese nation and an important component of Chinese culture. The Chinese community in Brunei has always valued loyalty and affection, respected the elderly and loved their families, passing down the culture of filial piety from generation to generation. This not only continues the spiritual lineage of the Chinese nation but also injects a harmonious and friendly cultural force into the local society.
Ambassador Xiao pointed out that this gathering is not only a reunion of family affection but also a vivid inheritance of excellent Chinese traditional culture. It fully showcases the good demeanor of solidarity, mutual assistance, and respect for the elderly in the Brunei Chinese community.
He highly praised the long-standing efforts of the Fuzhou Ten Counties Fellowship Association in promoting Chinese culture and uniting the strength of overseas Chinese, and expressed sincere gratitude.
Regarding China-Brunei relations, Ambassador Xiao mentioned that the Sultan made a successful state visit to China earlier this year, where both heads of state reached important consensus on jointly building a China-Brunei community with a shared future. The recently held Chinese Central Peripheral Work Conference also pointed the direction for cooperation and exchange between China and neighboring countries, including Brunei. Ambassador Xiao encouraged Brunei Chinese friends to closely integrate personal development with national development, firmly support the great cause of reunification of their ancestral (home) country, and continue to play a bridging role in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, making new contributions to promoting the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future.
