(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) Brunei's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Mazlina, recently led a delegation composed of several senior officials from the Ministry of Health to attend the 157th meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board.
The meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 28th to the 29th of this month.
Brunei was approved to join the Executive Board at last year's 77th World Health Assembly (WHA77) and became one of the representatives of the Western Pacific Region in the World Health Organization, serving a term from May 2024 to May 2027.
The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 member countries, representing each region of the WHO, with a term of three years. The Executive Board holds meetings twice a year, with the first meeting held at the beginning of each year to discuss the agenda and resolutions of that year's World Health Assembly (WHA). The second meeting is held after the WHA meeting to implement the WHA's decisions and policies, and to provide guidance for promoting WHO's overall work.
This EB157 board meeting discussed several topics, including the outcomes of the WHA78 Assembly, the report of the "Executive Board Programme, Budget, and Administration Committee", the report of the "Standing Committee on Health Emergency Preparedness, Preparedness, and Responses (SCHEPPR)", as well as issues related to management, governance, and finance. Brunei is also a member of SCHEPPR, representing the Western Pacific Region, with a term of two years.
