(Kuala Belait, 16th)—V Plaza Hotel Kuala Belait’s Managing Director, Cheong Fong Ming, stated that the hotel is hosting its first "Lakaran Kenangan—Reminiscence in Sketches" art exhibition in Kuala Belait, hoping to provide the community with a platform to gather, appreciate artworks, share stories, and create new memories through art.
Jointly organized by Kuala Belait V Plaza Hotel and Creative Space Art Gallery & Studio, the "Reminiscence Sketches" (Lakaran Kenangan) art exhibition recently held its opening ceremony in the hotel lobby.
In his speech at the exhibition's launch, Cheong Fong Ming said that for V Plaza Hotel, the exhibition is not only about showcasing artworks, but also demonstrates that apart from offering accommodation, dining, and event venues, the hotel can also be a space for people to gather, interact, explore, and share—this is precisely what "Lakaran Kenangan" stands for.
He noted that the exhibition presents the beauty of art, memories, and Brunei Darussalam through sketches and visual storytelling, and brings together local artists of different generations—including veteran, mid-career, and emerging young artists—offering the public the opportunity to appreciate various artistic styles, experiences, and different ways of artistic storytelling.
He pointed out that art has a special power to preserve memories: a painting can record a place, a sketch can capture a moment, and sometimes the story conveyed by a work of art cannot even be expressed in words.
He mentioned that Brunei is home to many beautiful places, cultural heritage, stories, and memories, and through "Lakaran Kenangan," artists, from their unique perspectives, help people rediscover and remember these things.
He also noted that some of the participating artists were born in Kuala Belait and have, over the years, devoted themselves to developing their passion and talent for art. He believes the experiences of these artists show that artistic talent can start and grow in Kuala Belait, and that it is worth having a local platform for them to showcase their works.
He also expressed his gratitude to the management and team of the exhibition partner, Creative Space Art Gallery & Studio, for collaborating with V Plaza Hotel and bringing their artists and creative ideas to Kuala Belait.
He further thanked all the participating artists for sharing their talents, creativity, and stories, emphasizing it is their works that give the exhibition its special significance.
He hopes the residents of Kuala Belait, "Revitalize Belait," and the people of the entire Kuala Belait District can feel that this exhibition is for them as well. He encourages the public to visit the exhibition with family and children, enjoy and discuss the artworks, and gain inspiration from them.
After the launch ceremony, "Lakaran Kenangan" will continue to host community art workshops, and the exhibition will remain open to the public. The organizers hope these activities will encourage more people—especially the younger generation—to explore their creative potential.
He said that the exhibition is not only to acknowledge existing artists, but also hopes to encourage the next artist to discover their own artistic potential, and expects that "Lakaran Kenangan" will inspire people to cherish the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the achievements that will be created together in the future.
