(Kuching, 6th) Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Sim Kui Hian emphasized that traffic accidents, whether occurring in West Malaysia or Sarawak, should be given high attention.
He hopes that the Sarawak Lorry Association, its members, operators, and relevant agencies can strengthen communication and discussion, working together to improve traffic safety and reduce the incidence of traffic accidents.
Datuk Amar Sim Kui Hian expressed these views last night while attending the Sarawak Lorry Transport Association's 41st Anniversary and 2025 Year of the Snake New Unity Banquet. This follows the statement by the President of the Malaysian Lorry Association, Datuk Wong Kuan Seng, about recent severe traffic accidents involving heavy lorries and buses in West Malaysia, leading the Ministry of Transport to increase enforcement efforts.
He hopes that the Member of Parliament for Kuching, Dr. Kelvin Yii, can assist in bringing this issue to the national agenda, promoting the implementation of relevant policies.
He reviewed the historical evolution of the transport industry, mentioning how lorry equipment in the past was basic but is now technologically advanced, emphasizing the importance of the transportation industry in the regional economy.
He said that with the advent of the green economy trend, future lorries might continue to improve, possibly even adopting hydrogen or electric-powered technologies.
He stated, now is the best time to build Sarawak, calling on all the people of Sarawak to unite as one to protect Sarawak well.
