Zheng Lipin: Sarawak Should Avoid Interference from National Parties, Return Governance to the People

(Kuching, Jan 6) Sarawak's Batu Kitang branch secretary of the Sarawak United People's Party, Zheng Lipin, pointed out that although the Sarawak Alliance has launched and implemented many people-friendly plans and policies with Sarawak as a priority, representatives of Malaya parties in Sarawak still do not accept this fact and still believe that only a nationwide party can play the role of fair development across the nation.

“We are not surprised that the Miri Member of Parliament from the Sarawak PKR has yet to accept or realize that Malaya's political parties, including the DAP, have always prioritized Malaya, and as representatives of nationwide Sarawak, PKR and DAP MPs do not dare to speak out against this situation.”

She stated that it is easy to list examples of unfair and unjust treatment of Sarawak by national parties during their governance of the central government, the most memorable being the cancellation of the Kuching flood control project and several already approved bridges. Other cancelled large and small development projects need not be listed here one by one.

In her statement today, Zheng Lipin noted that when a Sarawak representative faces unfair and unjust treatment by Malaya parties in Sarawak, yet does not dare to stand up for Sarawak's rights, they would still prioritize Malaya over the welfare of Sarawakians, even if we grant them more power. Is this what we want?

“We have no intention to divide the nation, but the future of Sarawak must be led by the welfare of Sarawakians and local parties. The rationale is very simple: only Sarawak's local parties understand and are familiar with the overall situation of Sarawak, including humanities and geography. Most importantly, any development policy should prioritize Sarawak.”

She said that the Sarawak government plans to promote ART trains, buy banks, and airlines have not received any blessings from nationwide representatives in Sarawak. Instead, there's constant sarcasm. It seems we do not want those claiming to be nationwide parties based in Malaya to stand in Sarawak. Therefore, the welfare of Sarawakians and the overall future of Sarawak's economic, construction, and development absolutely cannot rely on nationwide party representatives in Sarawak, or we will face more unfair and unjust treatment.

“Therefore, we fully agree and support the stance of Dato Sri Abdul Karim, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, that Sarawak should avoid interference from national parties, return governance to the people, and let Sarawakians cherish Sarawak better.”
