(Jakarta, 25th) Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reiterated Indonesia's firm commitment to promoting a peaceful resolution of the Myanmar crisis.
This statement was made during the 46th ASEAN Summit, at an "Expanded Informal Consultation Meeting" held on Saturday, May 25, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia. The meeting's theme revolved around the implementation of the "Five-Point Consensus" (5PC).
"Indonesia remains firmly committed to promoting a peaceful resolution to the Myanmar issue. Regional stability can only be achieved if ASEAN acts in unity and with the principles of consensus and solidarity," Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a news statement released on Sunday.
Sugiono reiterated the importance of fully implementing the "Five-Point Consensus." This consensus was the agreement reached following the 2021 Myanmar military coup, focusing on:
Stopping acts of violence;
Expanding humanitarian assistance;
Ensuring inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders.
He also stated that Indonesia fully supports this year's ASEAN Chair, Malaysia, in its various initiatives to promote a peaceful resolution to the internal conflict in Myanmar. At the same time, Indonesia is also prepared to continue actively contributing to the restoration of democracy and stability in Myanmar.
"ASEAN's strength lies in its unity. In addressing the Myanmar crisis, we must speak with one voice and act with the same goal to promote the full implementation of the 'Five-Point Consensus,'" he emphasized.
The "Expanded Informal Consultation Meeting" is an informal forum gathering foreign ministers from ASEAN countries and special envoys on the Myanmar issue, aimed at discussing the latest developments in the Myanmar situation and more effectively promoting the implementation of the "Five-Point Consensus."
