On the 29th, South Korea's 'Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor's Team' prosecuted former President Yoon Suk-yeol's wife, Kim Keon-hee, on suspicion of violating the Capital Markets Act, the Political Funds Act, and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
This marks the first time in South Korea's constitutional history that a former presidential couple has been detained and tried at the same time.
On the 7th of this month, the 'Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor's Team' requested a warrant for Kim Keon-hee's arrest from the Seoul Central District Court. Late on the night of the 12th, the Seoul Central District Court issued the arrest warrant for Kim Keon-hee on the grounds of 'concern over destruction of evidence (by the suspect)'. Kim Keon-hee was then detained at the Seoul Southern Detention Center.
On July 10, the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Yoon Suk-yeol. The special prosecutor team in charge of investigating the emergency martial law incident subsequently made the arrest. On July 19, this special prosecutor team prosecuted Yoon Suk-yeol, who was under detention.
