Taiwan Officials Warn Against Participating in September 3rd Parade; Taiwan Affairs Office: Despicable and Vile

Published at Aug 30, 2025 11:45 am
In response to warnings from Taiwanese officials that former Kuomintang officials who go to mainland China to participate in the September 3rd military parade will be investigated, the mainland’s Taiwan Affairs Office has rebuked the Democratic Progressive Party's actions as “despicable, vile, and shameful,” vowing to hold them accountable according to law and crack down firmly.

On the 9th, the spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhu Fenglian, responded to reporters' questions.

Zhu Fenglian stated that representatives from all sectors of Taiwan participating in the activities in Beijing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance is an embodiment of national righteousness. It is open and aboveboard, beyond reproach, and conducive for compatriots on both sides of the strait to remember history, pay tribute to the martyrs, promote the great spirit of resistance, and jointly commit to the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Zhu Fenglian criticized that the DPP authorities have been obstructing this in every possible way, resorting to threats and intimidation, utterly abandoning a national stance, betraying justice and conscience, seriously going against the wishes of compatriots on both sides of the Strait, gravely harming the feelings of compatriots on both sides, and fully exposing their “Taiwan independence” nature, which is “despicable, vile, and shameful.”

Mainland Affairs Council Calls on the People to Unite

On the night of the 29th, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council responded to the Taiwan Affairs Office’s comments by reiterating that, in accordance with cross-strait regulations, those who have held important positions in national defense, foreign affairs, mainland affairs and other key positions are strictly prohibited from participating in celebrations or activities held by mainland China. Taiwanese citizens are encouraged to enthusiastically participate in upcoming commemorative events organized by the Ministry of National Defense, Veterans Affairs Council, and other central government agencies, such as the commemorations of the War of Resistance against Japan, the Battle of Guningtou, and the August 23rd Artillery Bombardment.

The Mainland Affairs Council stated that, should the aforementioned key personnel violate these regulations and participate in the CCP's “September 3rd Parade” or other activities officially organized by the mainland, the responsible authorities will, in accordance with Article 9-3 and Article 91 of the Cross-Strait Act, impose fines, suspend or revoke pensions (employment, military status), and revoke medals and decorations.

The Mainland Affairs Council once again called on “all people to unite and jointly defend national sovereignty and dignity.”

On September 3rd, Beijing will hold a ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance. Multiple media outlets quoted anonymous Taiwanese national security officials warning that “if any key figures attend the September 3rd parade, we will investigate and prosecute them according to law.”
