The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement on the 29th saying that, according to situational assessments and political directives, starting from 10 a.m. that day, the 'tactical pause in military activity' will no longer apply to Gaza City in northern Gaza, as it has now become a battlefield.
The statement pointed out that the IDF will continue to carry out military operations in Gaza targeting armed groups.
The previous day, the Israel Defense Forces and the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT)—an office under the Israeli Ministry of Defense responsible for coordinating the delivery of aid supplies to Gaza—issued a joint statement saying that Israel is preparing to expand military action against Hamas in Gaza City. The goal is to bring about the collapse of Hamas, and, in the process, promote the movement of Gaza residents to the southern part of Gaza.
On July 27, the IDF issued a statement saying that, effective immediately, the IDF would pause military activities daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in designated areas of Gaza until further notice. This measure is referred to as a 'tactical pause in military activity.' The designated areas include Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City.
