A Thai man attempted to rob a gold shop but failed, got trapped inside by the store owner to prevent his escape, and shockingly turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

According to Thai media reports, the incident occurred at 5 p.m. on November 11 at the Wakong Market in Ban Lueam District, Udon Thani Province.

The gold shop owner reported to the police that a robbery and suspect suicide had occurred in the store.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, Sakda, lying on the floor in front of the counter. He had two gunshot wounds, one to the right temple and the other to the left shoulder. A 9mm pistol was found near the body.

The gold shop owner told the police that the suspect had arrived in a white pickup truck registered in Chanthaburi Province and said he wanted to pawn a gold necklace.

After inspection, the owner found the necklace was fake and informed the suspect that it couldn’t be accepted. At that moment, the suspect suddenly drew a handgun and demanded 200,000 baht (25,562 ringgit) in cash from the owner.

The owner pretended to agree and said he needed to go to the back storage room to get the money, but then took out his own handgun and retaliated, leading to a gunfight with the suspect.

The owner admitted that he shot the suspect in the shoulder. After the suspect fell to the ground, the owner immediately locked the shop doors to stop him from fleeing. The suspect then shot himself in the head.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the gold shop and surrounding area and collecting evidence to complete the investigation. As for the motive of the attempted robbery, police are still investigating.
