(Seremban, 29th) A 76-year-old local elderly woman recently fell victim to a “blessing scam,” losing not only her jewelry but also over a thousand ringgit in cash. Helpless after the incident, she expressed hope that sharing her experience would remind the public, especially the elderly, to raise awareness and avoid becoming victims themselves.
The victim revealed that on the day of the incident, she went alone to the Sen Ling Long market to buy vegetables, when she was approached by two unfamiliar women. They claimed her son had been sick for years and they knew a “healer” who could ward off misfortune. Shortly after, a third woman appeared and seemed to know everything about her family situation.
Convinced by their words that her “son would soon face a great disaster and needed blessings to avert it,” the elderly woman firmly believed them and, following their instructions, returned home to retrieve all her gold and cash, handing them over to the perpetrators for so-called “rituals.” The suspects, wearing masks and sunglasses and holding umbrellas to conceal themselves, then even asked her to go to the bank to withdraw more money.
On the way, the elderly woman suddenly realized she had been deceived. She hurried back to the market to look for them, but the three had already vanished.
She painfully called on the public, especially the elderly, to remain highly vigilant and not to easily believe strangers’ claims of “blessings to dispel disasters,” in order to avoid repeating the same mistake.
