(Kuching, 3rd) Former TV3 Sarawak Coordinator Basri Mohamad has been honored with the “Sarawak Premier’s Special Recognition Award 2025” as the “Special Personality Award” recipient, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the press both in the state and nationwide.
Basri was the first video journalist for TV3 in Sarawak. He played a key role in expanding the news coverage of this private television station in the “Land of the Hornbills.”
Throughout his career, Basri has served as a vital news bridge between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, offering in-depth reports on local culture, traditional customs, and major events, including the 2002 landslide tragedy in Simunjan, Sibu, which claimed 16 lives.
After attending the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 and the Sarawak Media Conference (SMeC) banquet last night, Basri expressed his gratitude for the recognition in an interview.
“This award is an encouragement to all media personnel, inspiring everyone to continue conveying information in a transparent and ethical manner.
“We must remain honest in our work and never fabricate stories. We must be diligent, responsible, and do our best without expecting returns. If possible, it is best to establish good relationships with all parties, be it with the police, firefighters, or fellow media colleagues, so that we can obtain information more smoothly,” he said.
