(Kuching, 3rd) Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Sri Fadillah Yusof last night urged Sarawak media practitioners to continue to focus on "beneficial news reporting" in line with Sarawak's progress towards achieving the goals of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
While attending the 2025 Sarawak Media Conference (SMeC) and State-level National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) dinner, he said that media reports should reflect the state's strategic direction as well as the challenges faced by local communities.
"Newsworthy content includes the development of green and hydrogen energy technologies, as well as the struggle and resilience shown by the people in coping with rising living costs. Other important narratives also include the tangible impact of government policies and public services on the central Borneo region," he said.
Fadillah pointed out that media platforms should serve as "a space where truth finds its voice, dignity is defended, and hope never fades."
At the dinner, he also presented the 2025 'Sarawak Premier Special Recognition Award' to 10 media practitioners in recognition of their outstanding contributions in delivering accurate information and constructive content.
The awards covered multiple categories, including editor-in-chief, reporter, news anchor, radio DJ, and photojournalist.
The recipients included Hamdan Ismail, Head of the Sarawak Bureau of Bernama; Ardena Grace, Chief Editor of The Borneo Post; as well as Cheng Lianfu from Dayak Daily, among others.
