South Korean man rescued after falling into 8-foot drain in BDC, Kuching

KUCHING, July 3: A South Korean man in his 50s was rescued by firefighters after he fell into a drain approximately 8 feet deep in front of the entrance to a condominium at Lorong B4 BDC here last night (July 2).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said it received a distress call regarding the incident at 8.25pm before a team of seven firefighters from Tabuan Jaya fire station was dispatched to the location, located about 7km away.

The team, led by operations commander PBK I Daniel Teo, arrived at the scene at 8.34pm.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a male foreign national from South Korea who had fallen into a roadside drain about 8 feet deep.

“The victim was standing while bearing visible pain and appeared to have sustained a fractured left ankle,” the statement read.

Firefighters used a fire ladder to safely bring the victim up from the drain. The man was then handed over to ambulance personnel for further medical treatment.

The operation was brought under control at 8.38pm and ended at 8.46pm.
