KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia possesses three key strengths that can ensure the country remains resilient and competitive, says Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He said the strengths comprised political stability and a conducive environment, a strategic geographical position, as well as strong human capital within the country’s multiracial society.

“In a world beset by various crises, many things are beyond our control. However, Malaysia has three key ‘ingredients’ that enable us to continue to succeed,” he said.

Sim said this when speaking at the Bisnes Sinar Harian Awards (BISA 2026) here, organised by Sinar Harian, which was also attended by Karangkraf chairman Firdaus Hussamuddin and Sinar Karangkraf chief executive officer Farah Hussamuddin.

According to Sim, political stability and strong national leadership form the foundation of investor confidence and economic growth, while Malaysia’s strategic geopolitical and geoeconomic position also provides an advantage in strengthening international trade and investment ties.

“The third factor is our multiracial population, who are proficient in various languages and understand diverse global cultures. Malaysia has what it takes to be the centre,” he said.

Meanwhile, he described the organisation of the awards by Malay-language newspaper Sinar Harian as a significant step in recognising the capabilities of local entrepreneurs.

“There are many business awards organised by Chinese-language newspapers that have seen many Malay entrepreneurs succeed. Today, I am proud that a Malay-language newspaper is also taking the initiative to recognise the capabilities of local entrepreneurs, particularly Malay entrepreneurs in their respective sectors,” he said.

At the event, Andalusia Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd received the BISA 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award.

A total of 37 awards were presented, including the Global Logistics & Maritime Leadership Award, the Entrepreneur Development Leadership Award and the Jury’s Choice Award.

Meanwhile, Firdaus said BISA 2026 was a tribute to local entrepreneurs who demonstrated strong spirit and resilience in facing current economic challenges.

“Sinar Harian has stood for two decades as a consistent voice highlighting issues, the pulse and aspirations of the people, including entrepreneurs nationwide,” he said.
