(Kuala Lumpur, 28th) Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized that as Malaysia's Chinese population continues to decline year by year, impacting the community's representation in a multicultural environment, the Chinese community can no longer afford to be divided. He therefore calls on the five pillars of the Chinese community: Hua Zong (Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia), ACCCIM (Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia), Dong Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Committees/Teachers’ Associations), the Chinese-language media, and Chinese-based political parties, to unite as one!
Nga Kor Ming cited Department of Statistics data, pointing out that by 2050, 25 years from now, the Chinese population in Malaysia will be only 14.8%. Thus, at this historical juncture, the Chinese community must unite because there is simply no longer any room for division.
“Hua Zong, ACCCIM, Dong Jiao Zong, the Chinese-language media, and Chinese political parties are the five pillars of the Chinese community. As our population decreases, the community must unite every possible force, so we have bargaining power to negotiate with our fellow Malaysians and compete for a better future.”
The minister made these repeated calls last night (27th) at the “Hua Zong Night” dinner held at the Selangor Serdang Hua Zong Building, on the eve of the organization's general election, urging all campaign teams in what’s described as “the fiercest election in Hua Zong’s history” to prioritize harmony, rejoin the team after the election, and live up to the community’s high expectations.
“Hua Zong must become an important platform that benefits the Chinese community, and must never degenerate into a tool for power struggles. This is the common wish of the entire community. Whoever becomes president and leads Hua Zong bears a great responsibility.”

Nga Kor Ming stressed that uniting the Chinese community, promoting progressive thinking, and preserving cultural heritage are Hua Zong’s three main aims, and he urged all state-level Chinese associations to return to their founding principles: to value integrity and put the Chinese community first.
“The government is very concerned about Hua Zong’s election. We respect Hua Zong and look forward to working with the new leadership towards win-win cooperation.”
In addition, to support the next “National Chinese Cultural Festival,” which will be hosted in rotation by Hua Zong members, Nga Kor Ming announced a grant of RM30,000 at the event to help with organizing expenses, hoping to inspire others and promote Chinese culture.
The Johor Hua Zong is currently preparing for the 40th National Chinese Cultural Festival in 2025. Johor Hua Zong president Dato’ Lim Kah Chuan received a mock cheque at the ceremony, witnessed by Hua Zong president Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan.
Guests at the dinner included the three Hua Zong presidential candidates: Hua Zong deputy president and Johor Hua Zong president Dato’ Lim Kah Chuan, Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall president Dato’ Chong Lai Fook, and Pahang Federation of Chinese Associations president Tan Sri Ng Ming Tsang. Also present were Hua Zong Honorary President Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah, Hua Zong Vice President Dato’ Lim Kwang Yew, and DAP Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Wong Siew Wai, among others.
