SAMARAHAN, 15 July: The 28th Anniversary Parade of PALAPES UNIMAS (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak), the first of its kind, was held at the PALAPES Parade Ground in Kota Samarahan on July 12.

A total of four officers and 27 other ranks from the combined PALAPES Army and Air Force units of UNIMAS participated in the parade.

The event began with the arrival of distinguished guests, including former Commandants and Chief Instructors of the corps.

This was followed by the arrival of the current Chief Instructor, Major Muhammad Fairus Ahmad, who received the salute and proceeded with the inspection of the parade.

In his address, Muhammad Fairus extended his heartfelt thanks to all former leaders who attended the celebration, emphasising the importance of their continued support in preserving the legacy of PALAPES UNIMAS.

The parade was led by Lieutenant Muhammad Amzar Mohd Asri, Officer-in-Charge, while the Parade Sergeant Major was Warrant Officer I Mohamad Fadillah Yahya.

Following the parade, a Yasin recital and Tahlil prayer session were held at Surau Kolej Kenanga.

Guests were then taken on a guided tour of the PALAPES UNIMAS historical gallery, which showcases the corps’ journey, past activities, and honours former Commandants and Chief Instructors.

The day’s celebrations continued with a formal luncheon at Dataran Kolej Kenanga, where tokens of appreciation were presented to outgoing PALAPES UNIMAS members and BAKAT (wives’ association) personnel.

A highlight of the event was a speech by Datuk Prof Emeritus Ts Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, the fifth Commandant of PALAPES UNIMAS and former Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS.

He expressed pride in witnessing the first formal HUT (anniversary) celebration in PALAPES UNIMAS’ history, underscoring its significance in honouring tradition and building esprit de corps.

This regimental activity embodies the core values of military tradition and discipline, aligning with the fourth pillar of the 30th Army Chief’s Command Directive, which aims to strengthen the bond between the army and the people.
