KUCHING, 15 July: Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to support a family in Kampung Podam, Bau, after a father and his two sons were left with long-term injuries from two separate accidents.
The family of six has endured unimaginable hardship, with two tragedies striking twice just six years apart.
In 2018, Ulis Rohen, 55, was involved in a road accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The impact caused memory loss and in the years that followed, his mental health deteriorated.
“Although he appears physically well today, Ulis continues to suffer mentally. He still hears voices and depends on medication to manage his condition.
“Unfortunately, the family faced another tragedy this year when Ulis’s two sons, Jelixson, 21, and John, 18, were involved in a motorcycle accident on their way to work,” Hope Place said in a statement yesterday.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) further said both sustained injuries to their arms, legs and spines.
“As they continue to recover at home, they remain fully dependent and without any source of income,” it said.
Currently, the family’s sole breadwinner is Ulis’s eldest son, Julius, 33, who works at a small sundry shop.
Meanwhile, Ulis’s wife, Rosmawatizafah, 43, stays at home to care for her husband and two injured sons, while also looking after their youngest child, an 11-year-old who is still in school.
Hope Place is now supporting the family with essential food supplies. Ulis also receives RM300 in monthly welfare assistance.
It also expressed appreciation to a concerned social worker from Sentosa Hospital who referred the family to them.
Those wishing to help can contact Hope Place, also known as Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Donations can be made via bank transfer to the NGO’s Maybank account at 511289001160 or by visiting Hope Place’s Facebook page for their Sarawak Pay / S Pay Global QR code.
