Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing pointed out that the East Coast Railway Project (ECRL) is expected to become a key component of a new international land-sea trade corridor, injecting new vitality into regional economic growth and providing new opportunities for deepening regional cooperation.
He stated that the East Coast Rail will connect people from different regions and the Malaysian peninsula, removing mountains as barriers to travel for the public. Once the railway is operational, all residents will enjoy more efficient, convenient, and high-quality rail services.
He mentioned that the East Coast Railway is not only a flagship project of high-quality "Belt and Road" cooperation between China and Malaysia, but also an important livelihood project jointly promoted by the leaders of both countries.
“This not only highlights the East Coast Railway as an important achievement in China-Malaysia pragmatic cooperation and cultural exchange but also marks an important step from high-quality construction to high-level operation of the 'Belt and Road' initiative.”
He added that the construction process of the East Coast Rail also provides opportunities for infrastructure development in the regions along the route and benefits other industries such as commerce, logistics, and tourism.
He also expressed his high respect for the hardworking railway builders on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia and offered sincere thanks to the Malaysian government and all sectors of society for their strong support.
He said that China is willing to work hand in hand with Malaysia to make the railway a road to prosperity and happiness, bringing benefits to the people.
He hopes that both countries will continue to work hard to maintain and operate the railway well, continuously enhancing the social benefits and economic value of the railway to better serve the lives of local people.
Ouyang Yujing expressed these remarks yesterday (18th) while attending the ceremony of the signing of a cooperation agreement between Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and the China Communications Construction Company Malaysia East Coast Railway Project Company (CCCECRL) and the launch of the East Coast Railway emblem and train design.
