On the 29th, the U.S. news website Axios quoted sources as saying that U.S. President Trump will hear a briefing on the 30th from U.S. Central Command Commander Cooper regarding new plans for possible military action against Iran.
The report says this indicates Trump is considering relaunching large-scale military action against Iran, "either to try to break the deadlock in negotiations, or to deliver a decisive blow before ending the conflict."
The report notes that the U.S. Central Command has drawn up a plan to launch a round of "short and intense" strikes against Iran, with potential targets including Iran's infrastructure, in an attempt to break the deadlock in negotiations.
The report says there is also a plan, to be submitted to Trump, focused on controlling parts of the waters of the Strait of Hormuz and restoring commercial navigation through the strait. Sources say that implementation of this plan could involve the use of ground forces.
The report states that the briefing may also cover whether to deploy U.S. special forces to take control of Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles.
