Lee Kim Shin Encourages Youth to Preserve Arts and Culture in the Digital Age

(Miri, 14th) The Sarawak Minister for Transport and the State Assemblyman for Senadin, YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that in this digital and rapidly changing era, young people who can calm down to write, paint, and compose articles are worthy of great praise.

"You are conveying the beauty of Chinese culture and the depth of thought with each stroke and word, which is a tremendous achievement."

He mentioned that even the ability to think and judge, once considered unique to humans, is now being challenged by artificial intelligence like never before. People's ability to think independently and cultural heritage are at risk of being marginalized by technology. However, we can take the initiative to firmly grasp this "ability to succeed" in our own hands, making artificial intelligence a tool to enhance work efficiency, rather than replacing humanity.

"Artificial intelligence is assisting us in completing tasks, not making all decisions for us."

Also a Permanent Honorary Advisor of the Miri Teochew Association, Lee Kim Shin expressed these views in his speech at the opening ceremony of the "2025 Malaysian Teochew Youth National Arts Competition Miri Regional Competition," hosted by the Malaysian Teochew Association Youth Section and organized by the Miri Teochew Youth Section at Riam Road Secondary School in Miri. The speech was read by Jeffery Phang Siaw Foong, a fellow advisor, as Lee could not attend due to official duties.

He said, "I am honored to be invited to this culturally rich event brimming with youthful talent and appreciate the efforts and perseverance of the Miri Teochew Youth Section and the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia, for persistently organizing and expanding this meaningful annual event, providing a platform for our young students to showcase themselves and inherit culture."

This year's competition includes the 34th Chinese Pen Calligraphy, the 44th Essay Writing, the 47th Art, and the 48th Chinese Calligraphy competitions, with a total of 617 students participating.

He said this is a cultural heritage that transcends eras and generations, not only showcasing the profound heritage of Chinese culture but also the passion and dedication of the young generation towards traditional arts.

"Students, your efforts on the stage today, regardless of the outcome, are the most valuable growth process. I hope you continue this love, allowing the seeds of cultural arts to take root and blossom in your hearts."

He also expressed his sincere gratitude to all the organizers, judges, and volunteer teachers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. It is their dedication that has made such a spectacular and meaningful arts competition possible.
