(United States, 26th) U.S. President Trump condemned Russia's bombing of Ukraine, stating, "I am not happy with (Russian President) Putin," and considering increasing sanctions on Russia.
According to Reuters, Trump told reporters at Morristown Airport in New Jersey, ready to return to Washington on Sunday (May 25), "I don't know what happened to him (Putin). What's wrong with him? Right? He's killed a lot of people. I'm very unhappy about it."
He also said, "I have always gotten along well with him, but he is firing rockets at cities, killing civilians, and I don’t like that."
Trump also raised the possibility of imposing more sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing attacks.
On Sunday, he posted on social media platform Truth Social saying that Putin's attacks on Ukrainian cities are "crazy," and warned that any attempt to fully take over Ukraine would "lead to Russia's downfall."
He wrote, "I have always maintained a good relationship with Russian President Putin, but something went wrong with him recently. He has gone completely mad! I always said he wants the whole of Ukraine, not just a part of it, and perhaps it turns out to be true, but if he really does that, it will lead to Russia's collapse!"
On Sunday night, Russia launched 367 drones and missiles at Kyiv and other regions in Ukraine. This is the largest airstrike since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, resulting in at least 12 deaths and dozens of injuries.
Trump has been making efforts to bring about a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine over this three-year-long war. Last week, he had a more than two-hour call with Putin. Representatives of Russia and Ukraine have also conducted negotiations, but only managed to reach an agreement on the exchange of prisoners.
