A US military drone stationed in South Korea crashed in waters near Gunsan on the 24th.
The US military stationed in South Korea issued a statement pointing out that at around 4:35 a.m. that day, a US Air Force MQ-9 drone deployed at Gunsan base was involved in an incident while performing a routine mission over waters near Gunsan City. No casualties were reported.
The statement said that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Korean Chosun Ilbo, citing South Korean military sources, reported that the drone lost control during the mission, and the US military opted to bring it down.
The report stated that the MQ-9 drone was first deployed on the Korean Peninsula in September of this year.
