Trump Temporarily Will Not Meet Zelensky, Disputed Issues Like Territory Left to Presidents to Decide

White House Press Secretary Levitt said on the 24th that there are no arrangements for U.S. President Trump to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky this week.

She told the media that there are currently no arrangements for a meeting between the U.S. and Ukrainian leaders.

When asked whether Trump still insists that Ukraine accept the new 28-point plan by the 27th of this month at the latest, Levitt said that Trump hopes a peace agreement can be reached as soon as possible.

She said that over the past ten months, Trump has been in direct talks with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine and has been putting pressure on both sides. The claim that the United States has not treated Russia and Ukraine equally in order to facilitate a peace agreement is “completely false.”

In addition, several U.S. media outlets cited Ukrainian officials as reporting that the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations have drafted a 19-point plan in Geneva, with the most contentious issues—such as territorial matters and security guarantees for Ukraine—left for the presidents of the two countries to decide.

The reports pointed out that many disputed clauses have been revised. Although the current wording of the draft is not “entirely acceptable” to the Ukrainian side, after modifications the text is “at least worth considering.”

The reports say the U.S. and Ukraine have streamlined the content of the proposal to try to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible. One Ukrainian official stated that neither side has ruled out Ukraine joining NATO, and this may become one of the clauses concerning security guarantees for Ukraine.

On the 23rd, representatives from the U.S. and Ukraine held talks in Geneva, Switzerland regarding the new 28-point plan.
