Phone Call Between Chinese and US Leaders Clarifies Principles and Positions on the Taiwan Issue

Published at Nov 25, 2025 03:54 pm
Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that last month, he held a successful meeting with US President Trump in Busan, South Korea, reaching many important consensuses. This recalibrated the direction and injected new momentum into the stable progress of China-US relations, and also sent a positive signal to the world. Since the Busan meeting, China-US relations have remained generally stable and improving, which has been widely welcomed by both countries and the international community. Once again, facts show that the common wisdom 'cooperation leads to mutual benefits, confrontation hurts both sides' has been repeatedly proven in practice, and the goal of 'mutual achievement and shared prosperity' between China and the US is a tangible and visible reality. Both sides should maintain this momentum, stick to the right direction, uphold the principles of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, expand the list of cooperation, reduce the list of issues, strive for more positive progress, open up new spaces for cooperation in China-US relations, and better benefit the peoples of both countries and the whole world.

Xi Jinping clarified China’s principled position on the Taiwan issue, emphasizing that Taiwan’s return to China is an important component of the postwar international order. China and the US once fought side by side against fascism and militarism; now more than ever, they should together safeguard the outcomes of the victory in World War II.

Trump stated that his meeting with Xi Jinping in Busan was very pleasant and he completely agrees with Xi’s views on bilateral relations. Both sides are comprehensively implementing the important consensuses reached at the Busan meeting. China played a key role in the victory of World War II, and the US side understands the significance of the Taiwan issue for China. The two leaders also discussed the Ukraine crisis. Xi Jinping emphasized that China supports all efforts conducive to peace, hopes all parties will continue to narrow differences, and reach a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement as soon as possible to address the root causes of the crisis.

Trump: To Visit China in April Next Year, Invites Xi Jinping for a Return Visit to the US Later That Year

On the other hand, Trump said he has accepted Xi Jinping’s invitation and plans to visit Beijing in April next year. He also stated that he has invited Xi Jinping to pay a state visit to the US later that same year. If these trips materialize, they will mark a new round of high-level engagements in China-US relations.

Trump revealed this news on social media a few hours after a phone call with Xi Jinping on the 24th local time.

He said he has accepted Xi Jinping’s invitation and will visit China in April, and has invited Xi Jinping to make a state visit to the US later in the same year. He said both sides agreed that keeping close communication is very important and he also looks forward to "having such communications with China."
