(US, 22nd) US and Ukrainian representatives said a series of meetings held in Florida, USA were “constructive”, but did not announce any clear breakthroughs towards ending the war with Russia.
According to Xinhua News Agency, US Presidential Envoy Wittkoff and the head of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Umerov, each issued statements on social media on Sunday (December 21), noting that the US and Ukrainian delegations, together with European partners, held a series of “productive and constructive” meetings in Florida over the past three days.
According to these statements, the US delegation included Wittkoff, President Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, and White House staffer Greenbaum. The Ukrainian delegation included Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Gnatov. National security advisors from several “key” European countries also participated to coordinate a joint strategic approach among Ukraine, the US, and Europe.
The statements said that outside of the US-Ukraine-Europe talks, a US-Ukraine bilateral meeting focused mainly on four key documents: further improving the 20-point “peace plan”—aligning positions on a multilateral security guarantee framework for Ukraine and the US-Ukraine security guarantee agreement—and further developing Ukraine’s postwar economic development plan. The two sides also discussed relevant timelines and subsequent procedural steps.
The statements added, “A shared priority is to stop the killing, ensure security guarantees, and create conditions for Ukraine’s reconstruction, stability, and long-term prosperity.” “Peace not only means ending hostilities, but also laying a dignified foundation for a stable future.” The Ukrainian side will further deepen cooperation with partners in subsequent phases.
AFP pointed out that although the US and Ukraine have held a series of high-level meetings in recent weeks, there are still no clear indications that key obstacles to this nearly four-year-long war are about to be resolved.
Meanwhile, Russia’s presidential special representative for foreign investment and economic cooperation, Dmitriev, has held talks in Florida with Wittkoff and Kushner in recent days. According to Russian news agency Sputnik, Dmitriev told the media on the 21st that “warmongers” were unable to disrupt the Russia-US talks.
Earlier on the 21st, Russian Presidential Assistant Ushakov said that a US-Russia-Ukraine tripartite meeting “has not been seriously discussed,” and the Russian side hopes that the US and other parties involved in talks on the Ukraine issue will adhere to the consensus reached between the Russian and US leaders in Alaska in August of this year.
