The National Palace emphasizes that the Head of State has the special privilege granted by the Federal Constitution to pardon, parole, or reduce sentences for criminals within the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
In a statement issued today (3rd), the National Palace stated that Articles 42(1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution clarify the aforementioned provisions, and the Head of State can also exempt, defer or mitigate the sentences imposed by the court for the related crimes.
"The supreme authority exercised by His Majesty the Head of State will be executed based on the recommendations of the Pardons Board led by His Majesty."
The Head of State, Sultan Ibrahim, has also uploaded this statement from the National Palace on his official Facebook page.
"In view of this, any party wishing to propose a pardon or sentence reduction for a specific prisoner must have the relevant prisoner submit the application so that the Head of State can consider it during future meetings of the Pardons Board."
The statement also reminds all parties to respect the constitution and established laws.
