The U.S. Pentagon stated on the 2nd that the State Department has approved a $310 million (approximately 1.32 billion ringgit) arms sale to Ukraine, involving F-16 fighter jet training, maintenance, and related equipment.
The Pentagon pointed out that this transaction is not related to former President Biden's arrangements and is a genuine arms deal.
Previously, Ukraine received a batch of F-16 fighter jets from U.S. allies with the consent of the Biden administration. Trump was not keen on providing weapons support to Ukraine, instead utilizing Biden's authorized transfer arrangements.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department stated in a statement that this arms sale will enhance Ukraine's ability to respond to current and future threats, ensure pilots are effectively trained, and improve interoperability with the U.S.
On the other hand, Reuters reported on the 2nd, citing U.S. officials and informed sources, that U.S. officials are preparing a new set of economic sanctions against Russia, including measures targeting the banking and energy sectors.
The report indicates that the new sanctions aim to increase pressure on Russia, forcing it to accept Trump's efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
It is currently unknown whether U.S. President Trump will sign the agreement to the sanctions.
