In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a middle school student playing a prank pulled down a classmate's sports pants to knee level, causing the latter's "bird" to be exposed. After the incident was taken to court, the former's parents were required to pay compensation.
According to a report by Liberty Times on the 3rd, the verdict indicated that on the morning of June 6 last year at 7:30, A-Ming and Xiao-Hua (aliases) were preparing to enter their classroom for class. A-Ming, walking behind Xiao-Hua, who was wearing sports shorts, suddenly got the idea for a prank. He stepped forward and yanked Xiao-Hua's sports pants down to his knees. As a result, the sports pants along with the underwear were pulled down, exposing Xiao-Hua's "bird." Xiao-Hua quickly used his hands to cover himself and promptly pulled up his pants.
Xiao-Hua went home to complain to his parents, who then took their child to the police station to report the incident. After a hearing by the Juvenile Court of the Kaohsiung Juvenile and Family Court, A-Ming was found guilty of sexual harassment and coercion. Xiao-Hua's parents separately filed a civil claim for 50,000 NT, and during a summary trial in Kaohsiung District Court, both A-Ming and his parents admitted the offense. A-Ming's father said that he works as a laborer earning less than 30,000 NT a month, and the mother is a housewife who does not earn money, arguing that the compensation amount was too high and hoping to reduce it.
The judge considered that A-Ming was a minor and that his parents should jointly bear the responsibility for compensation, and that A-Ming's actions did infringe on Xiao-Hua's privacy rights. Taking into account the identity, financial condition, and the degree of harm caused by both parties, the court ruled that A-Ming and his parents should jointly compensate Xiao-Hua 25,000 NT (approximately 3,460 MYR), with the option to appeal.
