U.S. President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on the 15th over the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) editing and splicing his speeches, seeking a total of $10 billion (about RM 40.9 billion) in damages.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Court documents show the lawsuit includes a defamation claim and a violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, with each claim seeking $5 billion in damages. Previously, some U.S. media had reported the defamation claim seeking $5 billion.
The BBC's documentary "Trump: Second Chance?", aired a week before the U.S. presidential election last year, misleadingly edited and spliced Trump's speech segments, making it appear as if Trump was inciting his supporters to create unrest.
BBC Director-General David and Chief Executive of News Ternis have resigned over the incident, and BBC Chairman Sameer Shah has also apologized for the matter.
