(Miri, 8th) The Miri Province Surname Basketball Tournament held its closing award ceremony last night at the Miri Basketball Association Basketball Court. The Miri Chiang Hsia Huang Clan Association triumphed over the Sarawak Miri Division Lin’s Clan Association with a score of 93 to 71, securing the championship, while the latter received the runner-up position. The third place was awarded to the MIRI LEE CLAN ASSOCIATION SARAWAK, and the fourth place went to Miri Lau's Clan.
This basketball tournament is held once every nine years, and this year's event was organized by the youth committees of various surname associations in Miri Province, with the MIRI DIVISION KOH YANG XU CLAN ASSOCIATION hosting it. It began on December 30, 2024, and continued into the New Year until January 7, 2025, under the theme "Friendship First, Competition Second." The event aimed to promote healthy sports, enhance friendships between surname associations, and showcase basketball skills.
During the closing ceremony, Khor Ooi Long , chairman of the MIRI DIVISION KOH YANG XU CLAN ASSOCIATION, expressed that the conclusion of the tournament marks a successful end to this basketball event. He extended heartfelt gratitude to all participating teams, audience members, and the hardworking staff who contributed significantly to the tournament on behalf of the association.
He stated that each team gave their all during the competition, demonstrating immense enthusiasm and unity through their sweat and efforts.
Khor Ooi Long said that every intense confrontation on the court is the greatest respect to the opponent and a perfect interpretation of the spirit of competition.
