The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is assisting with the deployment of urban search and rescue teams.
The statement added that UN Secretary-General Guterres is deeply saddened by the casualties and widespread destruction caused by the strong earthquake in Venezuela, extends sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. Guterres expressed solidarity with the government and people of Venezuela, and welcomed the support extended by member states at this critical moment.
