Chinese actress Xin Zhilei clinched the Best Actress award at Venice last year for her performance in "When the Sun is High," and recently she has ventured into Hollywood, taking on her first English-language film. She will star in the biographical movie "Sunset Boulevard—The Anna May Wong Story," which tells the tale of Anna May Wong, the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood during the 1920s.
It is reported that the film will feature both English and Chinese dialogue, and will be produced by Sino-American film company "Fundamental Films." The project is currently in preparation. Xin Zhilei expressed how deeply moved she was by Anna May Wong’s story: "She never forgot her cultural roots, was determined to forge her own path, and never hesitated to speak up for other women. In the face of difficulties and doubt, she never backed down. This film is a tribute to Anna May Wong’s courage and resilience. I hope it will help more people remember this talented, intelligent, and ambitious legendary woman." During her career, Anna May Wong starred in over 60 American films and television productions, including her 1929 landmark work "Piccadilly," and is regarded as a pioneering woman in American cinema. #
