TVB’s sitcom ‘Come Home Love: Happy Courier’ is the longest-running sitcom in Hong Kong and has always been a hot topic among drama fans. Just as the show was heading toward its 10th anniversary, there have been multiple rumors of its impending conclusion. According to sources from ‘on.cc’, ‘Come Home Love’ is about to stop filming, finally drawing a perfect ending. Cast members have expressed their reluctance upon receiving the news, and all hope that when the company starts production on a new sitcom, they’ll have the chance to reunite.
Over the years, TVB has produced many hit sitcoms, all aired during prime time. Employing a lighthearted and humorous approach that is closely knit with the lives of Hongkongers, these series make for a relaxing watch and strike a chord with viewers. From the ‘Hong Kong 81’ series in the 1980s, to ‘Cala House’, ‘Happy Wans Family’, and ‘A Kindred Spirit’ in the 1990s, to 2000s sitcoms like ‘War of the Genders’ and ‘Virtues of Harmony’, many classic characters have been created. However, the longest-running sitcom in Hong Kong has to be the currently airing ‘Come Home Love: Happy Courier’, which premiered on February 20, 2017, and as of the 12th, has aired 2,805 episodes, accompanied viewers for over 9 years.
Although the series is still loved by audiences of all ages and remains popular with advertisers, every show eventually comes to an end. ‘on.cc’ learned that TVB Executive Director and Assistant General Manager Catherine Tsang — the mastermind behind ‘Come Home Love’ — together with Assistant Director of the Production Department, Marco Law, recently held an urgent meeting with the cast, informing them that the company intends to halt production. There are rumors that ‘Come Home Love’ is tentatively scheduled to air until July. The cast, who have spent so much time filming together every day, expressed great reluctance. Moreover, with TVB launching fewer productions lately, many actors haven’t had new series to film for a while, so ‘Come Home Love’ had become a “lifelong rice bowl” for many. With its cancellation, both front and back stage crews are anxious about their future. Insiders revealed that TVB will soon launch a brand-new sitcom as a successor. Although cast members steer clear from disclosing details of the meeting, all hope they’ll have the chance to reunite in the new show.
