On the evening of the 18th, Massachusetts District Attorney Rollins stated that, according to police investigations, the suspect in the Brown University shooting is also the perpetrator who killed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Nuno Loureiro.
According to Xinhua News Agency, a shooting occurred in a teaching building at Brown University on the afternoon of the 13th, resulting in at least two students dead and nine injured. MIT professor Loureiro was shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts on the evening of the 15th and died at a local hospital the next day.
Police confirmed on the evening of the 18th that the suspect in the Brown University shooting was 48-year-old Neves Valente (a Portuguese national), who has died by suicide. His body was discovered earlier that evening in a storage facility in New Hampshire.
The FBI stated on the evening of the 18th that Valente and the 47-year-old Loureiro were believed to have attended the same university in Portugal.
According to Brown University, Valente entered the joint master's and doctoral program in physics at Brown in 2000 but withdrew less than a year later and has had no further connection with the university since.
