(Kuching, 31st) Police conducted two anti-drug operations locally on March 29, arresting four local men and seizing more than 1.2 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, which police described as a major achievement in the fight against drugs.
Kuching District Police Chief Alexon Naga Chabu stated that in the first operation, the Sarawak Police Headquarters (IPK) Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit arrested a 38-year-old man at about 1pm at a residence on Jalan Peace.
He said: “Police seized 85.08g of suspected methamphetamine from the suspect, with a market value of about RM8,500.”

“Initial urine test results showed the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and investigations revealed he had three prior offences.”
He noted that the suspect has been remanded for five days from March 31 to April 4 to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, he said that at about 8:10pm the same day, police launched a second operation in the BDC area, arresting three men aged between 35 and 36.
“Police seized about 1,200g of suspected methamphetamine during the operation, estimated to have a market value of around RM60,000.”
He added: “Urine tests for all three suspects were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and two of them have prior criminal records.”
The three suspects have been remanded for seven days from March 31 to April 6 to assist in the investigation.

He said both cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which upon conviction, carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Alexon pointed out that the success of this operation depended on continuous intelligence gathering and public cooperation.
He emphasized that police will not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking activities, describing drugs as the nation’s number one enemy.
Police urge the public to provide information related to drugs by contacting the Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit hotline at 012-208 7222, or the Sarawak Police Headquarters hotline at 017-592 9211.
