U.S. President-elect Trump will be inaugurated on January 20 next year, and Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has invited Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu to serve as the head of the special delegation. The accompanying legislators from each party have been confirmed, with Li Yanxiu and Ge Rujiun from the Kuomintang, Wang Dingyu and Chen Guanting from the Democratic Progressive Party, and Chen Zhaoci from the People's Party.
The Legislative Yuan's Department of International Affairs recently issued a notice requesting the Democratic Progressive Party and Kuomintang each to send two representatives, and the People's Party to send one representative, to attend the U.S. presidential inauguration with Han Kuo-yu as the head of the delegation. The special delegation will visit the United States from January 18 to 24 in 2025.
The Democratic Progressive Party has appointed Wang Dingyu, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, and legislator Chen Guanting to attend. The People's Party has confirmed Chen Zhaoci will attend. For the Kuomintang, due to many legislators registering, the decision was made to draw lots to decide the delegation members, resulting in the selection of Li Yanxiu and Ge Rujiun.
Although there were rumors that the decision to appoint Han Kuo-yu as the head of the special delegation changed after the Legislative Yuan passed three major controversial bills in the third reading, it is understood that Han Kuo-yu's appointment as head was personally invited by high-level officials from the Presidential Office, so everything remains as planned.
