Typhoon 'Gaemi' Hits the Philippines, At Least 140 Dead

The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on the morning of the 6th that Typhoon 'Gaemi' has caused at least 140 deaths and 127 people missing in the Philippines.

'Gaemi' made its first landfall in Southern Leyte Province on the 4th, then swept across the central region from east to west, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to many areas, and triggering disasters such as flooding and landslides.

The Civil Defense Office stated that Central Cebu Province suffered the most casualties.
'Gaemi' is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on the night of the 5th or in the early morning of the 6th. The picture shows the scene in Cebu Province on the 6th.
The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council stated on the 5th that the typhoon also caused more than 100 houses across the country to be damaged to varying degrees; 31 roads were damaged, of which 12 remain impassable due to severe damage. A total of 436 municipalities nationwide were forced to suspend work, 679 municipalities announced school closures, and 53 municipalities entered a state of disaster due to severe damage.

The Philippine National Weather Service said that Typhoon 'Gaemi' is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on the night of the 5th or early morning of the 6th.
