Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce Passes Three Proposals at Member Meeting, Urges Government to Optimize Flight and Electronic Invoice Policies

(Miri, 16th) The Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 2025 annual member meeting was successfully held this morning at the Imperial Palace Hotel's banquet hall. The meeting unanimously passed three proposals involving enhancing Miri's flight connectivity and adjusting the electronic invoice exemption policy to promote local economic development.

Proposal 1: Increase Direct Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Miri

Rationale: Currently, the frequency of flights from Kuala Lumpur to Miri is limited, making it difficult to meet the growing demand for business and tourism, while also affecting economic and cultural exchanges between Miri and the capital city.

It is suggested that the government collaborates with airlines to increase the number of flights from Miri to Kuala Lumpur, especially by adding more flights during peak times, and optimizing the flight schedule to better meet the needs of business travelers and tourists.

Proposal 2: Introduce or Increase Direct International Flights to Miri

Rationale: As an important tourism and commercial hub, Miri has relatively limited direct international flight routes (such as Singapore, China, Indonesia, etc.), affecting the city's international development.

It is proposed that the government strengthens cooperation with local and international airlines to promote the opening of direct flight routes between Miri Airport and major ASEAN cities, and through tourism incentive programs and promotional activities, attract more international tourists and investors to visit Miri.

Proposal 3: Adjust the Electronic Invoice Exemption Threshold to 500,000 Ringgit

Rationale: The current threshold of 150,000 Ringgit is too low to effectively cover many small enterprises. Raising it to 500,000 Ringgit would provide businesses with more preparation time and prevent resource-strapped enterprises from being overly burdened.

It is suggested that the government implement the policy in stages, initially starting with enterprises with annual turnovers exceeding 500,000 Ringgit as a pilot, gaining experience before gradually expanding the scope to optimize system operation and solve initial problems. At the same time, provide training, consulting services, and necessary financial support to help enterprises smoothly adapt to the new system.
