(Miri, 16th) Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin State Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry has made positive contributions to Miri over the years. It has maintained close cooperation with representatives to promote local development, successfully elevating Miri to city status in 2005.
In his speech, he also shared Miri's future development plans and emphasized that organizations should work together to overcome challenges and keep pace with global development when facing issues.
Lee Kim Shin made these remarks this morning while speaking at the 2025 member meeting of the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held at the Imperial Palace Hotel.
He stated that since its establishment, the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry has united the business community to drive local economic development. In recent years, despite a challenging global economic environment, the chamber has upheld the spirit of unity and cooperation, assisting businesses in overcoming challenges and exploring new business opportunities, making important contributions to Miri’s prosperity and development.

He emphasized that the Sarawak government has been actively improving transportation and infrastructure, including upgrading airports, dredging rivers, and promoting smart transportation systems, to strengthen Miri’s position as an economic hub in northern Sarawak. Among them, the Miri Port Authority is advancing the dredging and related works of the Kuala Baram Delta in Miri, which began last year and is expected to be completed by 2027. In the future, there is a prospect to develop Miri Port into a deep-water port, driving the growth of the shipbuilding industry and related sectors, creating more opportunities for the local economy.
Additionally, Lee Kim Shin encouraged entrepreneurs to embrace the era of Industry 4.0 by actively undergoing technological transformation, utilizing e-commerce, digital payments, and artificial intelligence to optimize business models while responding to the government's sustainable development policies to promote business upgrades through green innovation.
He stated that the chamber is not only a platform for enterprise exchange but also a bridge for communication between the government and the business community. The government will continue to listen to the opinions of the business community and work together with everyone to promote the economic and social development of Sarawak.
