UNIMAS Awards Ceremony Recognizes Outstanding Contributions of Academic and Administrative Staff

(Kota Samarahan, 7th) Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) held the MAGU 2026 Excellence Awards Ceremony, featuring a total of 30 award categories and recognition projects, to acknowledge the diverse contributions and achievements of the university's personnel.
According to a statement from UNIMAS, the ceremony also honored 192 recipients of the Excellent Service Award (APC), recognizing their long-term, stable, and high-quality work performance.
"In addition, 45 recipients of the Loyal Service Award (APS) were recognized for over 20 years of service, and 37 retirees were honored for their contributions to the university's development," the statement said.

In the major awards category, Indraneil Das was awarded the Academic Personality Award; Sim Siong Fong won the Innovation and Product Commercialization Award; while Dayang Norafizan Awang Chee received the UNIMAS Rising Scholar Award.
In the field of publishing, "Similajau’s Golden Shores and the Guardians of Biodiversity" secured the Scientific Book Publication Award; Teo Miaw Lee, author of "Chinese Narratives in Contemporary Indonesian Film," received the Literary Publication Award.
For journal publishing, Nazeri Abdul Rahman won the Scientific Journal Paper Award, while Associate Professor Mohd Kamal Othman received the Social Sciences/Literature Journal Paper Award.
In the area of teaching and learning, Marzie Hatif Jalil received the Transformative Teaching Award, and Athirah Azhar and Dolly Paul Carlo were awarded the Immersive Learning Experience Award.
In innovation and digital management, the Tun Abang Haji Openg Digital Center received the Digital Management Innovation Award; the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences won the UNIMAS Academic Microsite Award, and the Graduate Studies Center received the Non-Academic Category Award.

In sports, Sim Sze Kiat received the Men's Sports Excellence Award, and Mariati Hazmi received the Women's Sports Excellence Award.
Additionally, Mahani Huja Husin was awarded the Management and Professional Excellence Award, while Rafidah Badar won the Outstanding Executive Staff Award.
UNIMAS also recognized various other achievements, including the National Book Award 2025, ranking among the world’s top 2% scientists, as well as numerous local and international awards in research, innovation, and leadership.
In his speech, UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Ahmad Hatta Rasit stressed that the university must remain agile and resilient in an increasingly complex global environment, encouraging all personnel to utilize digital technology and artificial intelligence to enhance service efficiency.

He stated, "UNIMAS personnel must be bold in embracing change, learn new skills, and integrate AI into their daily work to boost productivity and accuracy."
The awards ceremony was held grandly at the UNIMAS DeTAR Putra Arena, marking one of the university’s key annual events to recognize excellence in academics, administration, service, sports, innovation, and teaching.
Guests in attendance included Sarawak Federal Secretary Ahmad Nadzri Mohamad Hassan, and UNIMAS Board Chairman Sulong Matjeraie.
