(Kuching, 7th) Sarawak will conduct the fourth round of artificial rain operations on the 11th and 12th of this month as a proactive measure to increase rainfall in the catchment areas of the state's main dams.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department released a statement today, stating that this artificial rain operation will focus on the catchment areas of Bakun Dam, Batang Ai Dam, and Murum Dam. These areas are important sources of water supply and hydroelectric power for Sarawak.
The statement said: “The artificial rain operation will be carried out based on detailed meteorological analysis by the Meteorological Department, including factors such as humidity, atmospheric stability, and wind pattern movements, to ensure the effectiveness of the operation.”
The statement added that the target areas were selected based on the distribution of cloud formations that are suitable for artificial rain conditions.

This operation involves collaboration between multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM), and the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).
Other participating units include the Sarawak State Government Secretariat, the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, as well as the Sarawak Utilities and Telecommunications Department.
