(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei yesterday attended the 28th ASEAN-Japan Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei was accompanied by his son, Prince Mateen.
At the summit, His Majesty delivered a speech emphasizing that after more than 50 years of cooperation, ASEAN-Japan relations are increasingly dynamic and forward-looking.
His Majesty thanked Japan for its support of ASEAN and called for cooperation on digital transformation to address today’s global challenges and rapid digitalization.
In this regard, His Majesty stated that the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership needs to be reviewed to ensure it keeps pace with the times and can meet the ever-changing economic landscape.
His Majesty also welcomed Japan’s continued support for ASEAN’s climate resilience efforts, such as the development of action plans for climate change.
At the same time, His Majesty stated, we appreciate the support from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) for ASEAN’s energy transition and its contribution to the work of the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change.
