(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) The Sultan of Brunei yesterday went to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to attend the opening ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits, accompanied by his son, Prince Mateen.
Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar warmly welcomed His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei. Dato’ Seri Anwar attended in his capacity as the 2025 ASEAN Chair.
The opening ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits featured a welcome speech by the Malaysian Prime Minister. Leaders of ASEAN and Timor-Leste, the ASEAN Secretary General, and visiting dignitaries attended the opening.
At the opening ceremony, leaders of the participating countries signed the declaration on Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN. Timor-Leste’s accession will expand ASEAN’s regional influence and economic integration, and also strengthen its commitment to inclusivity.
The ceremony also included the ASEAN Award, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting regional integration and strengthening the ASEAN community. This year's awardee is the Cambodian Youth Federation.
