The Deputy Minister of Education, Chong Sin Woon, announced that the enrollment quota for the 2025 Teacher Training College (PISMP) Chinese Primary School group has been significantly increased. This year, 1,678 Chinese primary school teachers will be trained. The application channel will open on February 24, and the deadline is March 16 at 11:59 PM.
Chong Sin Woon pointed out at an enrollment briefing jointly held with the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia (Dong Jiao Zong) today (23rd) that this year's enrollment quota has increased by 114% compared to last year's 784, with the quota for Chinese language teachers in Chinese primary schools rising from 30 to 105, an increase of 250%.
He stated that this year, the Chinese primary school group is open for the first time to applications from pre-university (STPM) graduates, to broaden the pool of applicants and ensure a sufficient talent pool of teaching staff.
He disclosed that last year, 4,311 people applied for the PISMP Chinese primary school group, filling the 784 spots, and this year, at least 8,000 applications are needed to ensure all positions are filled.
"With the promotion by Dong Jiao Zong and the optimization measures of the Ministry of Education, last year the PISMP Chinese primary school group achieved a 100% enrollment rate, successfully filling all open spots for the first time. Our goal this year remains at 100%."
To support the "I Want to Be a Teacher" recruitment campaign organized by Dong Jiao Zong, Chong Sin Woon announced an allocation of RM50,000 and encouraged graduates to actively apply.
"Regardless of whether or not you intend to become a teacher, you can apply to give yourself more options."
In addition, he emphasized that the PISMP is a five-year program, and students admitted will begin teaching in Chinese primary schools in 2030 upon completing the course.
He mentioned that this year, the "I Want to Be a Teacher" committee has arranged for 21 offline briefings, more than last year's 16, to ensure that students aspiring to pursue a career in education can obtain detailed information.
Attendees of the briefing included Dong Zong Chairman Datuk Chen Youshin, Dong Zong Deputy Chairman Li Tianlin, Dong Zong Deputy Secretary-General Wong Chai Heng, Jiao Zong Chairman Hsieh Liyi, "I Want to Be a Teacher" Committee Director Tung Rongshan, United Chinese School Committee Associations of Malaysia Chairman Chai Ching Man, and Malaysia Secondary School Chinese Language Teachers Association Vice Chairman Teoh Shu Li.
